It is almost two and a half years since I finished working for a living and Lin and I are now settling into a comfortable retirement routine (despite the usual health issues) but without any financial concerns. Lin is very keen to persue overseas travel whilst I am more interested in seeing as much as I can of our own country and at a more leisurely pace.
Whilst I have been associated with AMP since I was born (my mum took out a policy with monthly contributions of 2 shillings/month,which matured when I was 21 and I took out subsequent endowment policies which matured at age 65) it was not until I was introduced to Paul Carter by Toby Roney, my AMP rep at the time, that we began to formulate a financial plan to enable this lifestyle change called retirement. That was at least 18 years ago. I fell in love with the seaside life at Rockingham whilst sailing there in the early 1960’s and Lin and I had a desire to live there in retirement. We started looking for a place to buy and went to see Paul with our plan. Needless to say he was not impressed with how we proposed to proceed. I clearly recall him saying not to use your funds – use somebody elses! That advice proved to be very sound and we now have a new maintenance free, for a while at least, home in a location which best suits our lifestyle. Neither Lin nor I consider ourselves to be well versed in financial matters and over the years we have relied more and more on the sound advise from Paul Carter and in recent times, Greg Neill. Paul always stressed the importance of laying down a strategy for the long term and making any subtle changes by way of keeping on track. The sound and honest advice provided by them both has been a major influence on enabling us to now live the way we do. In the final analysis The Enjoy Factor is what its all about –enjoyment of family, travelling, gardening, fishing, boating, caravanning etc. and letting Provident make it happen.
